Imagining Paudie

Standard

Hey there! I hope everyone is well since my last post 🙂 As promised, today I just want to write a little about the concepts behind my most recent (and first) amigurumi pattern. After doing a little research on the Kerry Bog Pony I knew that I wanted to try and capture it’s cuteness in wool! So it was to the drawing board I went. Graph paper is proving to be my best friend latelImagey and with a fresh page and a sharpened pencil I got to work.

Initially I knew I wanted to focus on a couple of main features, to try and capture the personality all Kerry Bog Ponies seem to have; curves in the right places, a cute dished face and a beautiful mane and tail! Once the main shapes and proportions were worked out adding shape was relativity easy. Although it is worth adding here that my first physical draft looked no where near what I had hoped, in fact it was likened to a manic reindeer, I will leave your imagination to fill in the rest!

The manic reindeer did however give me a great jumping off point and with a few revisions the pattern was good to go. Even while I was crocheting my pattern I had serious doubts that it was all going to come together, however I stuck with it, Imagereminding myself that it is the finishing touches that often bring a piece together and I am very glad I did. The defining piece as it turned out was the mane, it’s addition really helped Paudie to look more like a pony and less like a pony-kangaroo hybrid! It was worth the time it took to unravel each strand of yarn and fluff up his locks, and with that done the rest was as simple as putting everything where it was meant to be 🙂

I really hope anyone who tries the pattern feels free to experiment with the colours, mane etc. and I would be really excited to see the results. Feel free to post any pic’s of your creation on https://www.facebook.com/moonofarannamigurumi. Also why not google the Kerry Bog Pony to find out a little more info about this beautiful creature?!

Until next time, happy crocheting from Heather & Paudie 🙂
